Sting take on to Morris County
The Sting traveled 11 hours to Morris County today. Stepped on to the field and took on the Colonials. Congratulations to the boys on their victory 2-1. They battle it out tomorrow morning vs. The Blaze
Sting Open Their Season against New Jersey Blaze
North Andover, MA (June 26th 2010) - On Saturday night the Maine Sting opened their season against the New Jersey Blaze at Merrimack College. After New Jersey took an early lead Maine was never able to bring the game back. The Blaze won the hard fought battle 2-1 over the Sting.
The Blaze gained their lead early on in the 4th minute of the match when #24, Mohamed Mansauay struck a well hit ball from the 25 yard line into the back of the net.
After the early first goal by the Blaze the play evened out as the Sting began to look more comfortable with one another on the field.
The Blaze struck again in the 85th minute when #10, Evan Asiamah drew a controversial foul inside the box and gained a penalty kick. Asiamah took the penalty kick and laid the ball into the lower right hand corner past the Maine keeper.
With their backs in the corner Maine pushed all their men forward and in the 88th minute #16 of the Sting, Sean Raph was taken down inside the Blaze’s box and gained the penalty kick. Raph took the penalty kick and placed it into the lower right hand corner to put Maine on the board.
In the end there was not enough time for the Sting to pull of the comeback and the Blaze went on to win 2-1.
Sting Regroup against the Colonials
NH (June 27th 2010) – On Sunday morning the Maine Sting took on The Morris County Colonials at Southern New Hampshire University. After losing a hard fought battle in the night before Maine Sting regrouped and came away with a 3-1 victory over the Colonials.
The Sting started of the game at a very high tempo and caught the Colonials on their heels. In the 3rd minute of the match Maine took the lead off of a corner kick. Mark Trombley #9 bent a ball onto the top of the six yard box and #2 Tyler Metevier drilled a header past the Colonial keeper.
After the first goal by Maine the play died down and became more neutral.
The Colonials were able to tie up the game in the 38th minute when #19, Joey Spivach struck a ball from the top of the eighteen into the lower right hand the Colonials struck back with a goal by #19, Joey Spivach.
The Sting opened up the second half one fire and took control of the game. Wave after wave of Sting attackers pressed the Colonials back toward their net. In the 62nd minute the Sting were given a corner kick. #9 Mark Trombley took the corner and placed it inside the box to #12 Phil Frost who laid it of his chest into the net.
The Sting continued to keep the pressure on the Colonials and in the 89th they struck again with a goal from #4 Greg Penoncello. Penoncello struck a beautiful ball from just beyond the eighteen into the upper left hand corner of the net.
Penoncello’s goal was the final blow to the Colonials and the Sting went on to win the game 3-1. The Sting’s next game will be on July 10th against the Boston Tea Men at Merrimack College.
